Intro to Pointers

Mastering Pointers

When you first hear the word pointer, it might sound confusing or technical. But the idea behind pointers is actually pretty simple.

A pointer is a variable that stores the memory address of another variable. That’s it.

Instead of holding a regular value like 10, a pointer holds the location in memory where that value is stored. And that gives us a lot of power.

Why Would You Ever Want to Use a Pointer?

Think of it like this:

  • If a variable is a house, the pointer is the address of the house.

  • You can give someone the address, and they’ll know exactly where to go to read or change what’s inside.
