replaceElement() Breakdown
Assignment 4In this chapter, we’ll do a full breakdown on how to complete the replaceElement function.
//Exam Question 2: Replace contents in target element
int replaceElement(int intID, char stringData[], struct listElement **targetList, int targetIndex) {
//You will need to take care of three scenarios
//1. Replace Head Elements
//2. Replace Tail Elements
//3. Replace Middle Elements
//use addElement() implementations for reference
// YOUR IMPLEMENTATION HERE
return 0;
}🧠 Why do we need a double pointer for targetList?
We use a double pointer (struct listElement **targetList) because we might need to replace the head node’s contents. Even though we're not changing the structure of the list (i.e. not inserting or deleting), it's consistent with other functions like addElement() and removeElement(), and it allows us to handle edge cases like an empty list more safely.
