Movie1 Catalogue Search System - CPSC 2620
Assignment 1 - Movie1 - SM 25What is this assignment about?
This assignment asks you to build a movie catalogue system in two different ways. The first part uses dynamic arrays. The second part (which we’ll do later) uses vectors and STL tools.
In this project, you'll enter a list of movies and their release years. Then, the program lets the user search for movie titles. Two search algorithms are used:
Linear Search
Binary Search
Each time the user searches for a title, the program tells them whether it was found, what year it came out, and how many comparisons it took to find it.
What is the purpose of the assignment?
This assignment is meant to help you practice:
Working with dynamic arrays in C++
Resizing arrays when they get full
Writing your own sorting function
Writing your own search functions (both linear and binary)
Counting comparisons to understand the performance of different algorithms
Handling strings in a case-insensitive way
Writing clean and reusable functions
